Fort Atkinson School Board Candidate Robynn Selle

Age: 49

Current occupation: Human Resources Director, Talent Development

Years of residence in Fort Atkinson: 21

Education: BS Engineering, Purdue University; Juris Doctorate, Indiana University, McKinney School of Law

Prior political experience: School Board, School District of Fort Atkinson 2022 – 2025

Reasons for seeking School Board position: I want to continue my work on the School Board. I have learned so much about the district and its operations over the past three years. I think with this experience I can continue to serve the district in a positive way to provide the community quality education while balancing fiscal prudence.

Most pressing issues facing the office/position of School Board Member: The first pressing issue concerns budget constraints from funding sources which are a key issue facing the district. State funding has not kept up with the expenses of education. The second pressing issue is maintaining competitive benefits and salaries to retain and attract quality staff which is central to maintaining a strong school district.

Conditions or projects to improve, initiate, or complete: I would continue the strategic plan and keep working towards the three goals areas of inclusive culture of growth, community distinction and high performance. The passage of a capital referendum allowed the district infrastructure to provided needed maintenance to the schools. However, learning spaces need to be consistently maintained and optimized. I would like to make sure that our learning environments are not just adequate but set students up for success.

Unique perspectives brought to the office of School Board Member and additional comments or insights for the public to know: I have three years of experience on the School Board. The insight and knowledge that I have gained during these three years has allowed me to truly understand the constraints on the district as well as where the School Board has a responsibility to make a difference through its decisions. My educational background in engineering and law laid the foundation for me to be a critical thinker and problem solver. In my professional experience in project and people management, I have further developed skills in organization, strategic planning, implementation, and collaboration. These are transferable skills to being a School Board member when thinking through issues, gathering information, analyzing data, asking questions and making decisions. Thank you.
